National Risk Register 2025

The National Risk Register (NRR) is the external version of the National Security Risk Assessment (NSRA), which is the government’s assessment of the most serious risks facing the UK. It provides the government’s updated assessment of the likelihood and potential impact of a broad range of risks that may directly affect the UK and its interests. 

The NRR is aimed at risk and resilience practitioners, including businesses and voluntary and community sector organisations. The NSRA now operates as a dynamic assessment process, with risks reassessed on a more regular basis to reflect the changing risk landscape. This version of the National Risk Register is the first to align with that dynamic process, drawing from the latest risk information available.

Risico-regelreflex

Eén van de meest bediscussieerde en bestudeerde termen in Nederland is die van de risico-regelreflex. Deze discussie begon in 2009 en is eigenlijk nog steeds actueel. De genoemde reflex is “de neiging van de overheid om voortdurend risico’s te verminderen, al dan niet naar aanleiding van een incident en deze als vanzelfsprekende opgave aan te merken.” Herlezing geeft inzicht in de zoektocht, zeker politiek-bestuurlijk, naar het eigen hart van de democratie in Nederland.

Dit is de definitie binnen het door het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties (2011) vastgestelde Programma Risico’s en Verantwoordelijkheden. De aanzet hiertoe ontstond eind 2009 waarbij de minister van BZK een algemene beschouwing toezegde over de rol en verantwoordelijkheid van de overheid bij het omgaan met (vooral fysieke) risico’s en incidenten.

Illusory Risk Management

Risicomanagement wordt doorgaans vormgegeven als een separaat systeem. In dit artikel ga ik na in hoeverre deze conventionele benadering ontaardt in een illusoir geheel. Als alternatief bespreek ik de waardemanagementbenadering, die managementteams helpt om samen te werken bij het blijven creëren én beschermen van wat hun kernstakeholders waardevol vinden.

Op de jaarlijkse conferentie van IIA Singapore in oktober 2018 heb ik een presentatie gegeven over illusory risk management. Centraal in mijn verhaal stond het grote verschil tussen enerzijds risicomanagement a1s een apart systeem en anderzijds waardemanagement. Dat laatste richt zich op het ondersteunen van beslissers bij het afwegen van relevante kansen en bedreigingen.

Flying start PRIMO Vlaanderen

PRIMO Vlaanderen (2009) is preparing for a promotional campaign right after the summer period. We recently had a first presentation of PRIMO Vlaanderen during an AXA-hosted seminar on adequate prevention policy in our local administrations, compared to what already exists in several companies.

Although it doesn’t seem obvious to imply that political decision makers should think about preventive risk management (often referred to as a waste of time), this aspect might be valuable for developing the association in Flanders as a key information network on risk management.

The new association wants to highlight the importance of preventive risk management over existing crisis planning. Such a policy can only help improve the organisation’s quality (quality management) and reduce costs by diminishing risks.

International Standards for Drinking Water

The World Health Organization has long recognized the need for an international agreement and cooperation to meet the requirements for safe and potable water supplies.

The status of water treatment and quality in the Member States of the World Health Organization was the subject of a questionnaire circulated in 1953. The replies clearly indicated the magnitude of the problem and the need for attention by the World Health Organization.
