Maatschappelijk Manifest Bestrijdingsmiddelen

Voor een gezond, groen en veilig Nederland

Natuur & Milieu, Parkinson Vereniging en de FNV | 2023

Dit manifest vertelt een bijzonder verhaal. Het is 61 Jaar geleden dat het boek Silent Spring (1962) van Rachel Carson werd gepubliceerd. Het waarschuwde voor de gevaren voor alle ecosystemen door het misbruik van chemische pesticiden en stelde de scope en richting van de toen moderne wetenschap ter discussie. Het boek bleek de start van de milieubeweging.

Het manifest herhaalt de essentie van dit boek. Het speelt bovendien in op wat in 1848 democratisch reeds is overeengekomen en vastgelegd in onze Grondwet:

This is a strong reminder to us all of how it actually all began. It’s time for reflection. After reading through the many articles on LinkedIn this morning, I sensed a need for change.

Scientists and practitioners of all kinds speak out that we must change. It is the most often used word in all contributions and opinions, must. In short, a kaleidoscope of paradigm shifts is proposed. There is no doubt in many minds that ‘must’ needs to change into ‘will’ or ‘can’. It is all about navigation towards a better world.

De Bosatlas van de duurzaamheid

De atlas laat zien welke effecten de toenemende invloed van de mens op de aarde  heeft, bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van klimaatverandering, het opraken van grondstoffen, verlies aan biodiversiteit en tekort aan zoet water.

De atlas geeft ook inzicht in de afspraken die er in internationaal verband zijn gemaakt om deze ontwikkelingen een halt toe te roepen, zoals het Klimaatakkoord van Parijs. Maar de nadruk ligt toch vooral op een vlootschouw van concrete maatregelen die burgers, overheden en bedrijven kunnen nemen om hun voetafdruk te verkleinen.
